Kendal LETS.

Kendal's Local Exchange and Trading Scheme.

Phone Coop.

Be as cunning as a fox - save money on your phone bill and help Kendal LETS! By joining the Phone Co-op you can save money and ensure that the Kendal LETS scheme has a sterling income! Despite many of the running costs of the LETS scheme being covered by the annual Kents subscription, we always require a small amount of sterling, principally for postage, photocopying, promotion and room hire. Looking to secure the future of the scheme, the steering group have put their collective brains together to devise a cunning plan so we are not reliant on charitable donations.

To achieve this in a socially responsible way whilst also benefiting LETS members, we have become a partner organization of the Phone Co-op. The Phone Co-op is a not-for-profit telephone service provider whose prices consistently undercut British Telecom’s. They promote themselves through partner organizations, such as Kendal LETS, and therefore save the expensive costs of marketing. Many charity and community groups around the country already use the Phone Co-op to raise funds, with their members benefiting at the same time. By signing up with the Phone Co-op through Kendal LETS, they get a customer, you get cheaper phone calls, and we receive a small percentage of the cost of each call. Pretty much a win-win situation!

Yes, every time you use the phone, 6% of the cost of the call (excluding VAT) is paid to the LETS scheme. You benefit from cheaper telephone calls whilst painlessly supporting your organization and ensuring that we have a regular sterling income and become entirely self-sufficient. Indeed, if only 10 members joined the Phone Co-op, they would collectively contribute about £150 a year, based on an average bill. £150 is around the amount of sterling we need each year. If every member changed their phone provider, we would be able to donate surplus cash to local charities – much better than it going to BT or another provider! It’s really easy to join the Phone Co-op!
