Kendal LETS.

Kendal's Local Exchange and Trading Scheme.

How YOUR scheme works.

Listed here are descriptions, clarifications and details about aspects of the Kendal LETS scheme. As the scheme has grown various changes and new initiatives have taken place and sometimes its hard for new members to discover the whole picture. This document tries to bring all the information about how the scheme works onto one page. However, it may still not cover everything so if you have any questions contact any of the steering group or talk to other members.

More information on how to trade is contained in the Trading Guide and the Members Agreement has the basic rules of the scheme. You should also have the latest Directory and the Who's Who of members, plus your cheque book. If you are missing any of these please contact member 015 or email us. The welcome letter has your membership number on which you need to know to be able to trade (ie. write cheques). We hope you will enjoy being part of the scheme, happy trading.

Who runs the scheme?

The steering group administer the scheme, produce the accounts, Directory, newsletters, arrange trading events etc. You can find out who they are by looking on the cover of the Directory.

You are welcome to attend steering group meetings and have your say on decisions or raise matters. The AGM elects the steering group.

How do I contact the scheme?

There are Lets 'post boxes' in Turning Point and the Library. You can use these for completed cheques, Directory updates, -messages, suggestions, newsletter articles etc. They are emptied regularly and also before Directories/newsletters. Or you can phone any of the steering group with queries.

How do I add/change my Directory entry?

Write down the changes you want to make and send them to member 017, or use the 'post boxes'. Don't forget to keep your address details up-to-date if you move.

What are Tea & Tradings & Socials?

T&T's are a general 'bring & buy' for Lets members. They are a good way to meet members (have a chat, drink tea!) and you can display/demonstrate your services. At present there are two a year. Socials are varied events and often members volunteer their homes for the venue.

There are also 'working socials' where a member wants quite a bit of work doing on their garden/farm etc. and combines this with a social. People can go and work (for kents) or just have fun. If you want to organise one contact the social co-ordinator for advice and then publish the details in the newsletter.

There are also other events which members organise like seed & seedling swaps, craft & produce exchanges, picnics, music events, and art displays. Keep an eye on the newsletters for details or organise one yourself.

Other aspects of the scheme.

Tools List.

This is a list of tools and widgets which members have and are prepared to lend/hire. Rather than take up lots of room in the Directory this list is maintained centrally by member 021. If you need a particular tool a quick call will usually locate it. If you have tools to include, write them down and send or post in the post boxes.

Newsletters.

If you have done an interesting trade, or could share your experience of Lets, (short!) articles are always welcome in the newsletter. If you want to raise an issue it may be appropriate to write an item to ask for others' views.

Adverts.

Each member (actually each account!) is entitled to one free advert each year. It can be used with any Directory or newsletter. You can buy additional ads or larger ones at the going rate (see below). You can also have your ad typed up, for an additional cost, just send in a rough draft.

Accounts.

The accounts are produced twice a year and published with a newsletter or Directory. If you want to know your balance at any other time please give member 014 a ring. Please take care to complete cheques with all the necessary information!

The scheme also runs a Benefit account to help those in special need. Donations can be made through member 014 at any time.

Leaving.

If you wish to leave the scheme please contact member 014 for an up to date balance. You are required to balance your account; either do some quick earning or spending, or donate a surplus to the Benefit account or pay off a debit in sterling.

We hope you enjoy the kendal LETS scheme, find it useful and meet others in the community.
