What is LETS?
- A local, multi-choice bartering system which enables people to give and receive all kinds of goods and services from one another without the need to spend money.
- A new alternative, putting you in touch with a big varity of local resources, all kinds of skills, and many local people.
- Lets encourages personal contact within the locality, while also helping to build a community's self-reliance and sense of identity.
- A non-profit making service organised by, and for, local people of all ages and backgrounds.
The Principles of LETS are simple
- People form a club to exchange goods and services amongst themselves, using their own system of accounts.
- A directory of member's skills, goods and resources is produced, and updated regularly.
- Members trade directly with each other whenever they wish, writing out credit notes to acknowledge the transaction.
- Credit notes are sent to a central point where all transactions are recorded and from where regular statements, directory updates and general news are sent out from.
