Kendal LETS.

Kendal's Local Exchange and Trading Scheme.

About Kendal Lets.

What is LETS?

  • A local, multi-choice bartering system which enables people to give and receive all kinds of goods and services from one another without the need to spend money.
  • A new alternative, putting you in touch with a big varity of local resources, all kinds of skills, and many local people.
  • Lets encourages personal contact within the locality, while also helping to build a community's self-reliance and sense of identity.
  • A non-profit making service organised by, and for, local people of all ages and backgrounds.

The Principles of LETS are simple

  • People form a club to exchange goods and services amongst themselves, using their own system of accounts.
  • A directory of member's skills, goods and resources is produced, and updated regularly.
  • Members trade directly with each other whenever they wish, writing out credit notes to acknowledge the transaction.
  • Credit notes are sent to a central point where all transactions are recorded and from where regular statements, directory updates and general news are sent out from.
